We are winding down our great chicken adventure, but we unfortunately lost another chicken on Monday night. L discovered the body first thing Tuesday morning.
This week we have the weigh in, the decision of who makes it to the show, and on Friday the actual show.

Meet Charlie
We've had a few days when getting home was not exactly easy and traffic was difficult at the end of our commute...
some days on the road there is a lot of bull.
This past Saturday was a lovely day, but I was busy in the house working on this and that while J was outside walking the chickens and guarding against hawk attack.
Then he called for me to come outside
and meet Charlie.
Charlie, or should I say Charli, is one of the new cows. You can recognize her as the black cow with the orange #107 earring.
Maybe she is ok with the petting because she knows J will be sure to leave a treat out for her;
chicken food. I think she's a body double for one of the Chick-fil-A cows. J doesn't mind if she eats the food. I did put a stop to that since we've got 22 beaks to feed.
I don't know if Charli will be as entertaining as Missy, but there's a definite bond between those two for now.
Yes, those are cheesy...
We've had some new cows move into our pasture in the last month. We know where they came from, they aren't strays or anything. The real point here is that J has bonded with these momma cows and their babies.
There was this one 'cold' and 'rainy' Saturday (ie 50 degrees and drizzling) and he had nothing else to do, so he spent a good two hours trying to get close enough to the cows so he could pet them. He walked where the cows walked. I think he wore them out marching up and down the pastures, but he was successful, at least a little.
Then he called for me to come outside
and meet Charlie.

Friday last week I had the opportunity to speak at
a local MOPS group about menu planning. They were so kind to listen to me talk about
menu planning for almost an hour. I
stopped talking before the coordinator had to get out her hook and get me off
the stage. When I returned to my table
the ladies began sharing their one ‘go to’ meal so that we could each have some
inspiration. It was wonderful and we’ve
had some great new dishes here this week, plus they have been super easy! So I’ve filled in with that same theme on a
few days.

Chicks? Not Really
Our little chicks are now four and a half weeks old and they are still growing exponentially. Really they hardly look like the cute little fuzzy peeps that we started with on January 9th.

4 Weeks Old
The chicks continue right along their growth trajectory. I've not been as good about taking a daily picture as I wanted to be, but it is quite a bit of work to add these guys to an already full schedule and as soon as we get home I take my phone inside and then don't remember to bring it back to the coop with me.... and it's ALL the way back in the house.
Here's a quick photo recap
